Indian Students' Violent Deportation By US Sparks Uproar; Govt Silence Questioned
The viral video of the Indian student pinned to the ground and deported violently has sparked outrage among Indians, questioning the Indo-US ties and bonhomie between Trump and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
As per the data available, Indian students are the highest among those whose visas were revoked or records terminated by the US, despite India being the top among the countries sending students to the US.
Despite India having leverage on the matter, the mass revocation of visas from the US has not elicited any comments from the MEA, which has maintained silence even on the viral video of the student.
The US move is impacting scores of Indian students who have taken massive loans, have quit their jobs to get enrolled in US universities. But the visa ban means they are not sure about their future.

CPI-M leader and MP John Brittas has also criticised the action and demanded justice for the Indian students.
The outrageous and barbaric actions against our citizens are utterly deplorable. India must unequivocally condemn these atrocities and take decisive action to demand justice.https://t.co/6H56nMNZ4khttps://t.co/Y8OzxYY2lKhttps://t.co/kXioEUm16d

Students have reportedly faced cancellation for minor traffic violations such as speeding or misdemeanors, inadvertent lapses in documentation, unintentional academic infractions without formal inquiry, social media expressions or journalistic writings – especially on the issue such as Palestine isse – as well as minor incidents including inadvertently failing to scan or catalogue items correctly while using self-checkout kiosks in stores.
This has created an atmosphere of fear and uncertainty among thousands of Indian students striving for legitimate academic pursuits in the United States.
Netizens are also questioning the treatment of Indian students in US and questioning the silence of authorities. One user write on social media, “Will the PM or the EAM have courage to raise this issue with Trump? Indian students are being treated like criminals in the US and Modi Govt is sitting on this issue, doing nothing.” Another user calls the current situation helpless.
In last 30 years of my being in US and having both my sons graduating from US universities I have never ever seen Indian students so vulnerable, scared and helpless, why do we have these offices in US and who is paying for them, isn’t it a fact that Indian tax payers in India pay… pic.twitter.com/4oKMlNQMBH
