JNU Admin Supports VC Against JNUSU-led Agitation Inside The Campus
Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) has issued a clarification and a condemnation against the JNUSU-led protestors demanding that UGC regulations be implemented. JNU has called it a violation of the Honorable Supreme Court, which issued a stay on the regulations.
While calling out the JNUSU leaders who were rusticated for alleged involvement in destroying the university property, the administration has supported the Vice Chancellor Santishree Dhulipudi Pandit by negating the charges against her, saying they are false allegations.
JNUSU protestors are demanding that the UGC regulations to be implemented. This is in violation of the Honorable Supreme Court which issued a stay on the regulations. JNU Vice Chancellor or Registrar have no powers over the regulations.

On February 26, 2026, JNU students took out a long march from the campus to the Ministry of Education, demanding the resignation and an apology from VC Santhishree Dhulipudi for her casteist remarks. Recently, during a podcast, the JNU VC commented that black and Dalits have been playing a victimcard, where she calls UGC regulations as ‘unnecessary and irrational’ and said that Blacks and Dalits have been playing the victimhood. “You cannot progress by being permanently a victim or playing the victim card”, she said.
Delhi Police has detained several protesters at JNU after the march allegedly turned violent when the police tried to stop the marching students. Among those detained, two were JNU Students’ Union office-bearers and a former union president.
Students have alleged ‘police brutality’, claiming multiple layers of barricades and heavy police presence stopped them from leaving the campus despite the large gathering for the protest march.
As per the reports, nearly 51 protestors, including JNUSU members, were detained after clashes erupted between students who tried to remove the barricades.
According to the recent reports, Patiala House Court on Friday has granted bail to all the accused students. The court directed that each of the accused furnish a bail bond of Rs. 25,000. The court has also ordered verification of the bail bonds.
