The KBPS official has reportedly said that only close to 80 percent of the required books have been printed, alleging that it was only  20 percent of the books been printed at the time when the CPI(M)-led LDF made the claim.

Kerala Class 6-8 Textbooks May Delay By 45 Days Despite Previous Govt's Assurance Before School Reopening

Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala: Class 6 to 8 textbooks will be delayed by around 45 days, according to a Kerala Books and Publications Society (KBPS) staff, contradicting the previous government’s claim that all books would reach students before schools reopened for the new academic year.

The KBPS official has reportedly said that only close to 80 percent of the required books have been printed, alleging that it was only  20 percent of the books been printed at the time when the CPI(M)-led LDF made the claim.

The reports regarding the delay, despite the previous government’s assurance of delivering all the textbooks before the school reopened, have sparked discussions about whether the newly-sworn-in government would have to bear the blame for the major delay.

According to K K Ibrahimkutty, the president of the KBPS, the total 3,57,05,475 books to be printed, only 2,85,51,000 have been printed till May 18, which accounts for 79.96 per cent. He pointed out that a maximum of 3 lakh books can be bound if the machines work without any problems each day.

According to Ibrahimkutty, the delay happened due to the inefficiency and slow pace of the KBPS management.
