Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan addressed a long-standing demand of the overseas CBSE schools and announced the opening of a new Central Board of Secondary Education or CBSE Regional Office in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The announcement was made on November 2 at the Consulate of India, Dubai.
This decision would help in streamlining operations and enhancing the teaching learning experience for students and teachers in the CBSE schools in GCC countries, a statement from the CBSE said.
“Wonderful interaction with Principals of all 105 CBSE-affiliated schools functioning in the UAE. Happy to learn that all these schools are aligned to the vision of NEP 2020 and are implementing it on the ground. Got great insights on ways in which Indian schools abroad can integrate global best practices to cater to the needs of our students and teachers,” the minister said in an X post.
Of the 5 lakh Indian students studying in CBSE-affiliated Indian schools in the GCC, according to the minister, more than 2.50 lakh students are there in the UAE. “Happy to share that in the wake of the long-pending demand of these schools, CBSE has decided to open a regional office in Dubai for better administration and for the benefit of the Indian diaspora,” he said.
He also said that there are over 250 overseas schools affiliated to CBSE. “Out of that, more than 200 schools are in the GCC and among that 106 schools are in the UAE.”
The UAE Ministry of Education statistics says that there are 271,109 Indian students in the Emirates’ general education schools, including 248 in government schools and 270,861 in private schools. The vast majority of Indian expatriate students study in private schools affiliated with CBSE, a Gulf News report said.
Mr Pradhan interacted with the local Indian community comprising educationists and school heads from all across UAE in Dubai.
In his address, he stressed on the potential of the Indian education system and its global reach.
He congratulated the CBSE and the Indian schools in UAE for their achievements in the field of education and creating a good name for the homeland India.
The minister also motivated the principals to come up with the expectations of the leadership of UAE for further strengthening the Indian educational ecosystem at UAE.
Mr Pradhan urged the school leaders to dedicate themselves to the future of the upcoming generation from the Bal Vatika Level, as envisaged in the National Education Policy 2020.
The Indian education minister has also met Minister of Foreign Affairs, UAE, Sheikh Abdullah Bin Zayed in Abu Dhabi, who extended a warm and gracious welcome to Mr Pradhan, accentuating the deep-rooted and enduring relations between India and the UAE, a statement from the Indian government said.
