The trend of Indian students preferring international education has significantly increased in the recent years

After a complaint filed by a 24-year-old Thane resident against a foreign education consultant firm operating in Pune City, Police launched a probe against the consulting agency.

The complainant who works for a software company in Mumbai, accused of being duped on the pretext of admission in a university in Italy. In the duration of more than one year from December 2022 and June 2023, she gave Rs 2.06 lakh on the pretence of admission offer.

The 24-year informed that a year ago, she came into contact with the educational consultant facilitating admission abroad, via an advertisement. She wished to pursue a management degree at Naples university in Italy, so approached the agency. Even after making payments she was asked to wait as the company kept promising her admission.

Finally, she approached police to lodge an FIR at Vimantal police station against the consulting agency. According to the information provided by Pune City Police so far two suspects have been arrested and it suspects that a large number of students have been cheated by the consulting agency.

A police officer at Vimantal police station informed, “We have booked four office bearers of a Viman Nagar company that claimed to be a consultancy for admission abroad. We have arrested two of them. We have reasons to believe that a large number of people may have been cheated in the same manner. We are investigating.”
