
'Restore Education To State List.. Kerala Is Not Bihar Or UP': John Brittas
The Communist Party of India (Marxist) leader John Brittas targeted the Union Education Minister in the Rajya Sabha over the centralization policies of the central government in education. While talking about the degrading state of education due to the centralised tendencies, the CPI (M) leader demanded the restoration of education back to the state.
Addressing the Upper House of the Parliament, Brittas said, “The honorable minister should stop this business of centralization of everything. Respite the state governments. Please understand that their are talents and vision for every state government”.

While targeting the BJP policy in states, he pointed to Odisha MP and his support for the BJP policies in the State, who speak about the diversity of the country including Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Odisha. While talking about Odisha, he quoted another member of Parliament from Odisha who said that the entire higher education in Odisha is out of line. “There is no staff .. nothing..”, he added
Retreiting his demands, Brittas said, “My only submission is to please uphold the spirit of the Indian constitution. if they are honest and sincere with regard to their stand about emergency please make sure to give back the education to the states”.
The Rajya Sabha MP also shared his views on the social media and mentioned the diversity of the states and said, “Kerala is not Bihar or UP” and ” India’s education can’t be designed from Delhi”.

Notably, the education falls under the Concurrent List in the Seventh Schedule of the Constitution. This means that both the central government and state governments have the authority to legislate on matters related to education.
