TISS To Give 100% Weightage To CUET PG Scores; Draws Criticism

Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) has decided to give 100 percent weightage to CUET PG scores to candidates for admission into postgraduate courses in 2025-26. The admission broucher released by the institute said that the weightage given to the personal interview will be dropped from the selection process.

Moreover, the application fee has nearly doubled this year.

Different student groups have come out against the policy of 100% CUET scores arguing to impact the entry of SC, ST and OBC candidates admission to the institute.

Earlier, in 2024, ministry of education took charge from the insitute to appoint the chancellors and vice-chancellors in TISS and four other centrally funded deemed universities.

Reportedly, the decision was taken to ensure ‘transparency and timely admissions’ for the next sessions. The interview process was delaying the admission procedure by one month leading to the loss of students to the insitute, as per the reports. The removal of the interviews expects to save time and ensure transparency in the admissions.

The Ministry of Education and UGC conduct the Common University Entrance Test (CUET) PG for admission into all postgraduate programmes in all central universities, other participating universities, institutions,  organisations and autonomous colleges since 2022.

The exam provides a single window opportunity to students seeking admission in any of the Central Universities (CUs) or other participating organisations (including State Universities, Deemed and Private Universities) across the country.
