UGC Starts Online Training Program For Non-Teaching Staff Of Central Universities

Edited by Uzma Parveen

University Grant Commission (UGC) in collaboration with the Capacity Building Commission (CBC) has announced a capacity-building training program for non-teaching staff members from 45 central universities.

Earlier in 2023, UGC conducted an assessment to identify the specific behavioral, functional, and domain competencies of its employees. After assessing the skill and competency gaps of employees, a special program was designed under the umbrella of ‘Mission Karmayogi’ to facilitate capacity building through roles and responsibilities entrusted to them by the universities.

UGC chairman Mamidala Jagadesh Kumar said that through this initiative UGC will provide thorough training to the employees to improve their practical and soft skills.

UGC training program

In the first phase of the training program, UGC aims to train at least 5000 employees from all central universities across the country. A wide range of areas are covered in the training program for non-teaching staff, such as project management, handling establishment concerns, managing finances, grasping the higher education ecosystem, and applying technology and psychology in the workplace.

The specially designed programs will be available on iGoT (Integrated Government Online Training) Karmayogi platform in the form of specific courses. The central university employees have been asked by UGC to complete these courses within four months. Those who complete the training program will be given recognition certificates.

Mission Karmagyogi

The ‘Mission Karmayogi’ initiative of the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT), is designed to improve standardization and coordination across various civil services in India. The iGoT (Integrated Government Online Training) Karmayogi platform under Mission Karmayogi offers a variety of courses to bridge the capacity gaps of employees by providing them with an introduction to technological advancement in using AI, Data-Driven Decision Making (DDDM), and using Microsoft Excel. In addition, it also targets to improve communication skills along with noting and drafting skills, familiarising them with the RTI Act and its process among others.

To implement these bridging capacity-building programs CBC was entrusted with the responsibility of skilling, imparting knowledge, and enhancing the abilities of government employees.
