Aam Aadmi Party opened its political account in Doda Constituency and secured its first in UT. AAP candidate Mehraj Malik defeated BJP candidate Gajay Singh Rana in the J&K Assembly elections 2024 with a margin of 4538 votes.
Jammu Kashmir National Conference Secured the highest number of seats with 41 followed by BJP which secured 29 seats. Congress telly remained at 6 and PDP and AAP grabbed 2 and 1 seats respectively. However, Aam Aadmi Party fails to make inroads in the Haryana Assembly elections.
In a surprise move the AAP won this constituency as the earlier numbers were showing a BJP victory. In the 2014 assembly elections also the BJP candidate won the Doda seat with 24,572 votes.
The assembly elections in the Valley of Jammu and Kashmir registered an overall turnout of 63.88% with 64.88% male voters and 63.04% female voters.
AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal congratulated the candidate and said, “Many congratulations to Aam Aadmi Party’s candidate Mehran Malik for securing a brilliant victory by defeating BJP in Doda. You fought the election very well. Congratulations to the entire Aam Aadmi Party for having an MLA in the fifth state”.
