In Paschim Medinipur’s Ghatal seat, the BJP has decided to bank on the popularity of Hiranmay Chattopadhyay (Hiranmoy Chatterjee). He secured his name among 20 candidates fielded in West Bengal by BJP in its first list. The seat is currently represented by another actor and TMC leader Dev.

The 45-year-old Actor and Businessman turned politician Hiranmay Chattopadhyay has a part-time research involvement with IIT Kharagpur. His LinkedIn profile features him as a socio-economic researcher with a focus on providing accessible and cost-effective healthcare to rural communities. He is also a mentor of Voice of World an NGO.

He joined the BJP in 2021 and won state assembly elections from Kharagpur Sadar seat. In the past, he expressed discontent with the BJP left all of the BJP Party’s official WhatsApp groups, and lashed out at the state unit leaders for excluding him from organizational matters and feeling unwanted. Last year, one of his pictures with Trinamool leader Ajit Maiti was circulating which sparked a rumor that he was going to change the party however Hiran later refuted them by saying it fake photo. As per the information he has 3 criminal cases registered in his name.

Two celebrities are about to square off in Ghatal, as actor-turned-politician Dipak Adhikari, a.k.a. Dev, the constituency”s current Trinamool MP, has been nominated again. Earlier a word of war sparked between Dipak Adhikari and Hiran when he targeted Trinamool MPs on cow smuggling and the Katmani issue.

Recently, he has targeted Mamata Banerjee over defending Sheikh Shahjahan in Sandeshkhali and accused her of propagating injustice against women and ED officials.
