BJP candidate Kartick Chandra Paul has won the Lok Sabha Election 2024 from the Raiganj Lok Sabha constituency by defeating TMC candidate Kalyani Krisha with a margin of 68,197 votes.
BJP has fielded Kartick Paul from Raiganj Lok Sabha constituency against Krishna Kalyani of TMC. Kartick Paul defected from Trinamool and was the former TMC municipal chairperson and Congress vice-chairman of the Municipal Board. Paul earlier defected from Congress to TMC and then TMC to BJP.
Till, 2014 the Raiganj Lok Sabha constituency has been represented by the left or congress party, however, in 2019, the seat was secured by the BJP candidate.
BJP candidate Debasree Chaudhuri secured the saffron party’s victory here in Raiganj with 40.08% votes while the TMC candidate received 35.32% votes. The CPI (M) candidate got 14.25% votes.
In 2014, the CPI (M) candidate Mohammed Salim secured 29 percent votes to remain victorious. Whereas the Congress and BJP candidates received 28.50% votes and 18.32% votes and secured second and third positions.
In 2009, Deepa Dasmunsi of Congress performed exceptionally well and secured 50.29% votes to win the constituency. The CPI (M) candidate Bireswar Lahiri secured 38.58 percent votes and remained second followed by the BJP candidate Gopesh Chandra Sarkar who received 4.19% votes.
