TMC candidate Asit Kumar Mal has won the Lok Sabha Election 2024 from the Bolpur Lok Sabha constituency with a 3,27,253 vote margin. While the BJP candidate Piya Saha is defeated in the 2024 Lok Sabha election from Bolpur.

Asit Kumar Mal contested the Bolpur Lok Sabha constituency a second time. In 2019, he secured success with 47.85% votes in the last parliamentary elections whereas BJP’ Ram Prasad Das got 40.57% to come second.

From 1996 to 2016, Asit Mal remained associated with the state legislative assembly. However, Mal claims to work for the constituency however, people seem unsatisfied with his work they allegedly deny seeing his face as their representative did not visit the constituency. Notably, the world-famous institutions Santiniketan and Visva Bharati fall within the Bolpur Lok Sabha constituency making the intellectual worth of this seat.

Bolpur is an SC category parliament seat with a significant Muslim and SC population that constitutes 30.07% and 28.61% of its total population. The Bolpur Lok Sabha constituency remained a CPI bastion for almost five and half decades from 1971 to 2014.

In 2014, TMC candidate Anupam Hazra won the Bolpur seat with 48.33% votes defeating CPI (M) candidate Dr. Ram Chandra Dome who secured 30.24 percent votes while BJP’ Kamini Mohan Sarkar secured only 15.13 percent votes.

The political dynamics for CPI (M) and Congress changed fast in the constituency as the left party got 49.90% votes and INC candidate Asit Kumar Mal secured 38.14 but in 2014 TMC took over the Bolpur Lok Sabha constituency.
