Hemant Soren, the current Chief Minister of Jharkhand is eagerly waiting for the election results. He has been serving as the Chief Minister since July 4, 2024, and previously held the position from 2019 to 2024 and from 2013 to 2014.

As the working president of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha, the major political party in Jharkhand, Soren has been a prominent figure in the state’s politics.

Hemant Soren is competing for the Barhait seat, seeking re-election and the BJP has fielded Gamaliyan Hembrom against him.

Hemant Soren won the Barhait seat in 2019 with 73,725 votes, defeating BJP’s Simon Marandi by a margin of 25,740 votes. His wife Kalpana Soren is contesting from Gandey and his brother Basant Soren from Dumka are set to know their fate today.

Soren’s political career spans over a decade with him being a member of the Rajya Sabha from 2009 to 2010. He became the Deputy Chief Minister of Jharkhand in 2010 and later served as the Leader of the Opposition in the Jharkhand Legislative Assembly from 2014 to 2019.

Soren has also represented the Barhait constituency in the Jharkhand Legislative Assembly since 2014 and has been a member of the Dumka constituency twice.

However, Soren’s tenure has not been without controversy. He was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate on January 31, 2024, in a land scam case, but was later released on bail on June 28, 2024.

Despite this, Soren remains a popular figure in Jharkhand and his party, the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha is hoping to secure a majority in the state assembly.
