Bhanu Pratap Singh Verma is a BJP leader and serves as the Minister of of State in the ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises. He is a sitting BJP MP and has been representing Uttar Pradesh”s Jalaun Lok Sabha constituency since 1996 and won five times. In the upcoming Lok Sabha elections also, BJP reposes faith in Bhanu Pratap Singh over Jalaun seat.
Bhanu Pratap Singh Verma belongs to the Koli community in Uttar Pradesh. In the 2019 elections, Bhanu Pratap Singh Verma retained the seat by defeating BSP”s Ajay Singh (Pankaj) for a margin of 1,58,377 votes. In the 2014 elections, BJP leader defeated BSP”s Brijlal Khabri for 2,87,202 votes. He won the Jalaun seat in 1996, 1998, 2004, 2014, and 2019 Lok Sabha elections.
He ventured into politics as a municipal councillor and in 1991, he became an MLA.
During his term as a parliamentarian, he served as a member of various committees including Committee on Welfare of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes and Consultative Committee, on the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas. In 2001, Bhanu Pratap Singh became the vice-president of the Uttar Pradesh BJP”s SC Morcha and a decade later, he became its president. In 2001, he also served as a member of BJP“s National Council.
Jalaun Lok Sabha seat has been reserved for Scheduled Castes (SC). According to Zee news report, almost half of the voters in Jalaun belongs to SC, and in the remaining population, OBC voters constitute 35 percent and general category voters are 20 percent.
Meanwhile, in the seat sharing with Congress, Samajwadi Party has reserved the Jalaun Lok Sabha seat with themselves.
