BJP Announces Second List Of 21 Candidates For 2024 Odisha Assembly Elections

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)”s Central Election Committee today released the second list of candidates for the upcoming Odisha Legislative Assembly elections slated to be held along with the Lok Sabha elections. The second list included a total of 21 names. One of the notable figures included in the second list is the former Union Minister Dilip Ray. he was nominated from the Rourkela constituency and will confront Odisha”s Labour Minister and Biju Janata Dal (BJD) candidate Sarada Nayak.

Interestingly, five names was of those who recently joined the BJP after leaving the BJD, and they include Amarndra Dash, Dambaru Sisa, Kailash Kulesika, Bhadav Hansdah and Jagannath Nudruka. The list also comprises women candidates; Surama Padhi and Sanjali Murmu.

The party had earlier retained 17 of its 22 sitting MLAs in the state when it announced its first list of candidates. The first list of candidates announced on April 2 comprised 112 candidates. However, the saffron party has so far released 131 candidate names out of the 147 assembly seats in the state. Earlier, the party had released the names of candidates for all the 21 Lok Sabha seats in the state.

According to the Election Commission”s release, the voting for the state legislative assembly will take place in four phases – May 13, May 20, May 25, and June 1. Lok Sabha polls in the state will be held simultaneously in four phases on the same dates. The counting of the votes will be held on June 4. The Congress has outed 133 candidates out of the 147 assembly seats.
