Dropping the incumbent MP, the BJP nominated Anita Nagar Singh Chauhan for the Ratlam Lok Sabha constituency when it announced the first list of candidates recently. The party this time has picked a new face, Anita Nagar Singh, wife of Madhya Pradesh Forest Minister Nagar Singh Chauhan. Many other names had reportedly surfaced for the nomination to this Scheduled Tribe constituency.
The assembly segments of the Ratlam Lok Sabha constituency comprises Alirajpur, Jobat, Jhabua, Thandla, Petlawad, Ratlam Rural, Ratlam City and Sailana. Congress’s Jamuna Devi was the sole woman MP In the history of the constituency. The constituency has been one of the strongholds of the Congress party. From 1980 to 2019, the seat has been firm with the grand old party except for the year 2014. During the 2014, general election, the BJP’s Dileep Singh Bhuria had wrested the seat from the decades of Congress hold. But the death of the sitting MP the next year entailed a by-election, in which the Congress won the seat back again.
During the 2019 Lok Sabha election, the constituency saw the BJP candidate Guman Singh Damor winning the seat with a relative majority. Now the BJP has fielded a woman candidate, dropping the incumbent MP Guman Singh Damor. The constituency will interestingly see one of the fierce competition between the BJP and the grand old party.
The BJP candidate comes with her experience in the Panchayath elections, victory and administration. She had been elected as District Panchayat President of Alirajpur district twice and is currently serving as president.
