On March 24, the Bharatiya Janata Party released the fifth list of candidates for the Lok Sabha elections. The names of six candidates for the polls from Gujarat were also included in the list. With this, the saffron party declared candidates for all 26 Lok Sabha constituencies in Gujarat. BJP leader Hasmukhbhai Somabhai Patel is the party candidate in the Ahmedabad-East constituency.

Hasmukhbhai Somabhai Patel, also known as Hasmukh Patel, is the current MP from Ahmedabad East. In the 2019 general elections, Hasmukh Patel won this seat by a huge margin of 4,34,330 votes. While the BJP leader secured 7,49,834 votes, Congress candidate Gitaben Patel managed to get only 31,5504 votes. The constituency witnessed a voter turnout of over 61 percent in the 2019 polls.

It is worth mentioning that the saffron party introduced Hasmukh Patel in Ahamedabad East in 2019 by replacing actor-turned-politician Paresh Rawal.

The veteran leader also served as a member of the Committee on Textiles and the Standing Committee on Water Resources in the 17th Lok Sabha. Hasmukh Patel had also represented Amraiwadi constituency in the Gujarat Assembly for two consecutive terms. In 2012, Hasmukh Patel became MLA for the first time by securing 1,08,683 votes. In the 2017 Gujarat Assembly polls, the BJP leader again won this seat by securing 1,05,694 votes. Congress candidate Arvind Chauhan managed to get only 55962 votes.

Meanwhile, Gujarat will head to the polls on May 7 in the third phase of the Lok Sabha elections.
