Chhattisgarh Election Results Today: Counting Begins At 8, Will Congress Retain Its Power?

After a tough battle between the grand old party Congress and BJP, the results of the campaign in Chhattisgrah will be known today. The counting will begin at 8 am. The Election Commission will announce the results of the Assembly elections in Chhattisgarh along with the other 3 states – Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Telangana on December 3.

The election in Chhattisgarh was held in two phases on November 7 and 17. The Congress and BJP fielded candidates in all 230 seats. Meanwhile, Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) contested in 183 seats, Samajwadi Party on 71 and Aam Aadmi Party on 66. The four main contenders in the state are the BJP, Congress, Janata Congress Chhattisgarh (JCC), Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP).

The grand old party is looking forward to continue the governance for another term. While, BJP is hoping for a comeback in the state it ruled for 15 years from 2003 to 2018.

In the first phase of the election covered 20 constituencies with 223 candidates, while the second phase involved 70 constituencies and 958 candidates.

Congress contested the polls on welfare work done by the Baghel government while the BJP raised issues of unemployment, liquor ban and corruption to woo the voters. The BJP’s poll campaign was spear-headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi who targeted Baghel over corruption, particularly the Mahadev betting app scam and recruitment controversy.

The main candidates from the state includes chief minister Bhupesh Baghel trying his luck for third consecutive time in his home turf Patan while his predecessor BJP’s Raman Singh contested in Ambikapur.

The exit polls which came out this week predicted a clear win for Congress over BJP. Once the counting begins, the early trends will start to kick-in. As per the trend, initially the postal ballots are counted first which is followed by the votes in the Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs).
