All Eyes Are On Madhya Pradesh, Chhatisgarh, Telangana, and Rajasthan As Assembly Election Results Due On Sunday

The much-awaited assembly election results for Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, and Telangana are all set to be announced today (December 3). Mizoram election results will be declared on December 4. As a precursor of the 2024 general election, this Hindi heartland election result is expected to garner special attention.

As per the exit polls released on Thursday evening, the BJP may clinch power in Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan while Congress may secure Chhattisgarh and Telangana. The BJP and Congress retain power in Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh while toppling the incumbent parties in Rajasthan and Telangana, respectively.

According to the report, if the BJP survives the challenges posed by Congress in Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan, that will be a huge boost for Narendra Modi before the 2024 general elections.

Chhattisgarh

The Chhattisgarh election has been held in two phases on November 7 and 17. In the first phase, voting was conducted for 20 Assembly seats, while the remaining 70 constituencies voted in the second phase.

Chhattisgarh has 90 Assembly constituencies. The term of the Chhattisgarh Assembly ends on January 3, 2024. The state has 2.03 crore voters.

The state is poised to see stiff competition between the ruling Congress Party and the main opposition BJP, with the Congress campaigning for their second term while the BJP raises allegations against the incumbent government. In 2018, the Congress had a landslide victory, gaining 68 seats, while the BJP later had to settle with 15 seats.

However, during the election campaign, the BJP raised allegations against Chief Minister and Congress leader Bhupesh Baghel, with the Enforcement Directorate (ED) claiming that Baghel has received illegal payments of Rs. 508 crore from the controversial Mahadev betting app.

Rajasthan

During the election held on November 25, 2023, in Rajasthan, voting took place in 199 constituencies. Congress Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot is trying to retain power by beating anti-incumbency and securing a second term in power, while the BJP is providing a tough fight.

Madhya Pradesh

In Madhya Pradesh, there are 231 seats, including one nominated member, and Shivraj Singh Chouhan is currently ruling the state, representing the BJP. Congress is aiming to overthrow the current government. Elections took place on November 17, 2023.

Telangana

In Telangana, polling was held in 119 constituencies on December 30. The newly formed state of India is witnessing fierce competition between the incumbent Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), led by Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao, and the Congress. The BJP is expected to improve their positions in the state.
