Dr Heena Vijaykumar Gavit is hoping for a hattrick win from Nandurbar constituency in the forthcoming Lok Sabha polls. Besides being a parliamentarian, she is a National Spokesperson of the BJP and served as the Chairperson of the National Women Empowerment Committee. Heena Gavit is also a physician.
Nandurbar Lok Sabha constituency, which comes under North Maharashtra region is a reserved seat for scheduled tribes (ST). When Dr Heena Gavit contested for the first time in 2014 polls, she was just 26-year-old. In her debut elections, she has trounced senior Congress leader Manikrao Hodlya Gavit. Though sitting Congress MP and then Union Minister of State for Social Justice Manikrao Gavit won the seat nine consecutive times, but suffered defeat against Heena Gavit. Nandurbar consituency has been Congress and she won the seat by a margin of 1,06,905 votes. s” bastion since 1981. Thus, through her first win, Heena Gavit became one of the youngest parliamentarian in the Lok Sabha.
Politics is not an alien territory for Dr Heena Vijaykumar Gavit since her father Vijaykumar Gavit was a well-known politician. Since his daughter joined rival party, Vijaykumar Gavit lost cabinet berth in then Congress-NCP government in Maharashtra. He, later, joined BJP in the same year itself.
In the 2019 General Elections, Heena Gavit sought her second term from Nandurbar. She retained the seat by defeating Congress candidate KC Padavi by a margin of 95,629 votes. Dr Heena Vijaykumar Gavit is one of the active women participants in the Lok Sabha. Her name often comes in the list of women parliamentarians who raised maximum questions.
