Election Commission Orders A Repoll In Two Booths In West Bengal On June 3

The Election Commission ordered a repoll in two booths in West Bengal, one in Deganga under the Barasat Lok Sabha constituency and the other in Kakdwip under the Mathurpur constituency. The repoll is scheduled to be conducted from 7 am to 6 pm on June 3, 2024. The decision came after reports from poll officials and the material circumstances on record. The voting was taken in the two constituencies on June 1, 2024.

The EC order was issued after the BJP demanded a repoll in nearly 420 booths in Diamond Harbour and 11 booths in Mathurapur LS constituencies. The BJP allegedly said about the malpractices in all 256 booths in Falta and demanded a repoll.

The BJP’s Diamond Harbour candidate, Abhijit Das said that his name was blocked on EVMs and the button was also not accessible to vote. Das also accused TMC of turning the CCTV camera in the wrong direction. However, the Election Commission did not take action on the reports and ordered no repoll on the booths.

TMC former MP Kunal Ghosh said that BJP made false allegations as the party did not depute polling agents as it lacks organizational capacity in the state. TMC representative said that BJP took a month to select a candidate for Diamond Harbour and even more time to arrange agents into each booth. Now the party is putting absurd charges on the election proceedings.

The booth in the Barasat constituency is located at the Kadambagachi Saradar Para FP School in the Deganga assembly segment, while the other in Mathurapur is located at the Aaddir Mahal Srichaitanya Bidyapith in the Kakdwip assembly seat.
