Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel on Thursday requested Election Commission (ECI) to check the vehicles belonging to the armed forces. As Assembly elections are around the corner, Chief Minister alleges that BJP is using Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) vehicles to bringing in boxes filled with cash to influence voters.
“I request that the Election Commission should check vehicles belonging to CRPF also. BJP has accepted defeat and BJP is getting boxes filled with cash to be used for influencing the voters,” he said.
He said the issue is a concerning matter, and Congress will file a complaint in this regard. Mr Baghel, then asked, what is the need to bring more units of CRPF, when there were already enough CRPF teams in Chhattisgarh.
Previously, Congress has submitted a memorandum to the EC requesting action against Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma over their remarks violating the model code of conduct during the poll campaigns in the state. The EC, in turn, served a notice to Ms. Sarma for his comments directing Chhattisgarh minister Mohammad Akbar.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address his first public rally in the poll-bound Chhattisgarh on Thursday, and it will be held in the Naxalite-hit Kanker district.
In 2018 assembly polls, Congress won 68 seats out of 90 where BJP secured only 15 seats.
The assembly elections in Chhattisgarh will be held in two phases: on November 7 and on November 17. The counting of votes will take place on December 3. The upcoming assembly polls going to witness a fight between Congress and BJP.
