Congress leader and Member of Parliament Rahul Gandhi slammed PM Modi on “his friendship” with businessman Gautam Adani, while attending a public event in poll-bound Chhattisgarh, on Saturday.
“India”s PM can”t make an inquiry on the Adani. Because after the inquiry the loss will not be for Adani but to someone else”, Mr Gandhi said. He was mentioning the Adani-Hindenburg row that thrown light into the relationship between the Modi government and Mr Adani including share price manipulation.
“Be it the governments in Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan, Karnataka, Himachal Pradesh, or the upcoming governments in Telangana and Madhya Pradesh, they will be the government of the poor rather than being the “governments of Adani””, he added.
Mr Gandhi was addressing the state-level convention of Rajiv Yuva Mitan Club, constituted under the state”s sports and youth welfare department in Nava Raipur. Nava Raipur is the upcoming new capital city of Chhattisgarh.
“Before every election, BJP presents a number. They say they will get 230 seats-250 seats. But every poor person in Karnataka voted for Congress”, he said.
Congress leader and Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel was also present in the function.

“BJP has broken the economic backbone of India. GST and demonetisation destroyed small businessmen and that was done deliberately,” PTI quoted Mr Gandhi.
It was Rahul Gandhi”s first visit to Chhattisgarh after the Congress held its plenary session in Raipur in February this year. He was received by CM Bhagel earlier on the day. “We all welcome the people”s leader Mr. Rahul Gandhi on the holy land of Chhattisgarh”, wrote Mr Bhagel on X (formerly Twitter.

“Congress party always works towards empowering the common people and to give them their right”, said Mr Bhagel at the Raipur function.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah also addressed a public meeting same day in the state where assembly elections are due by the year-end. It is the first time that events of the two senior leaders belonging to rival parties are coinciding on the same day in the Congress-ruled Chhattisgarh.
Chhattisgarh is a major domain of Congress now, which they recaptured recently amidst BJP”s north Indian wrath. After long 15 years of BJP rule under former Chief Minister Raman Singh since 2003, Chhattisgarh shook hands with Congress in 2018 polls. Currently, the state is ruled by the Indian National Congress under Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel.
In the 2018 assembly polls, the Congress won 68 of 90 seats in the state, while the BJP finished a distant second at 15. However, the Congress currently has 71 members in the House.
Mr Gandhi was in Mumbai on Friday to take part in a meeting of the opposition INDIA alliance. There he also addressed the Congress workers.

Mr Shah on the same day attended two functions, one in Raipur and the other at Saraipali in Mahasamund district.
“In the last 5 years, Bhupesh Baghel govt has only done scams, looted people and put them through atrocities. This govt has become an ATM for Gandhi family”, Economic Times quoted Union Minister addressing the public.
