Shortly after the Election Commission of India announced the poll dates for five states, Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge took to his X (formerly Twitter) handle and ‘predicted’ a ‘’farewell’’ to the ruling BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party), under the incumbent Prime Minister Narendra Modi, from Indian political spectrum.

According to the Congress National President, the upcoming elections will decide the future of BJP and Congress in India, and he expects a complete wipe out of the saffron party from the political map of the country. The allies of BJP will also not be spared from it, said Mr Kharge.

On his X post, Kharge said that, ‘‘in Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Telangana and Mizoram, the Congress party will go to the people with strength’’. Mr Kharge also guaranteed ‘’public welfare, social justice and progressive development’’ as the Congress poll promises to the states.

Congress is expecting victory in all the states with a ‘’huge majority’’. ‘’This will be a victory for the rights of farmers, labourers, youth and women’’, the party stated through an official comment released on their X handle. ‘’Love will win against hatred. Congress will win’’, they added.

Congress leader and MP Rahul Gandhi also ensured a credible performance by the party on the upcoming elections. “People are angry towards BJP regarding inflation, unemployment, and inequality’’, he said to the media after Congress Working Committee Meeting in Delhi.

Elections in the Indian states of Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Telangana and Mizoram are scheduled to takes place on November 2023, and counting for all the assemblies will be held on December 3, 2023. Mizoram will go to polling booths on November 7 while Chhattisgarh will vote on November 7 and 17. Madhya Pradesh will vote on November 17 and Rajasthan will vote on November 23. Voting will be held in Telangana on November 30.

Elections will be held for more than 670 assembly constituencies in five states; Madhya Pradesh (230 seats), Rajasthan (200), Telangana (119), Chhattisgarh (90) and Mizoram (40).
