Ganesan Selvam is fielded as the DMK candidate from Kanchipuram constituency. He is the sitting MP from Kancheepuram. The Kancheepuram Lok Sabha constituency comprises six assembly segments. They are known for farming, tourism, industries, information technology, silk trade and temple tourism.
In the 2019 Lok Sabha election, DMK candidate G Selvam secured 684,004 candidates. G Selvam completed his Master of Commerce in Pachaiyappa’s College for Men, Kanchipuram in 2000. He also received M.Phil in Alagappa University in 2013.
Born in 1974, Selvam hails from the village of Kancheepuram. The Kancheepuram is a reserved constituency that was formed in 2008, it borders Chennai city and has the reputation of replicating the choice of the city’s voters.
G Selvan has been renominated by the ruling DMK and is now pitted against E Rajasekar of the AIADMK, and the PMK’s V. Jothi, who are both outsiders. Mr Selvam though has maintained a low profile has executed several civic infrastructure works, including the construction of school buildings, bus shelters, and the commissioning of several high mast lights through the Member of Parliament Local Area Development (MPLAD) funds. However, the voters are also aggrieved that Mr. Selvam was not successful in solving all the problems. Selvam who first contested in the Kancheepuram constituency in 2014, was defeated by AIADMK’s K Maragatham by a margin of 1.46 lakh but avenged his defeat to K. Maragatham by winning the constituency in the 2019 Lok Sabha election by a margin of more than 2.80 lakh votes.
