Chandubhai Chhaganbhai Shihora is whom the Bharatiya Janata Party decided to field from Gujarat”s Surendranagar Lok Sabha seat. Shihaora was given seat by replacing Dr. Mahendra Munjapara, the sitting MP of the constituency. The former president of Morbi district panchayat, Shihora belonged to the Chuvaliya Koli community. This is the first time Shihora is contesting on a Lok Sabha ticket, and is hopeful to retain the Surendranagar seat for his party.
Notably, the competition in Surendranagar might not be easy for Shihora. He will be contesting against a bunch of other candidate from different parties and independent candidates. Including, Rutvikbhai Makwana of INC, and Dabhi Ashokbhai Sukhabhai of BSP.
The Surendranagar Lok Sabha constituency is one of the 26 parliamentary constituencies in Gujarat state. It belongs to general category. The constituency encompasses part of Ahmedabad district and the entirety of Surendranagar district.
For the last two general election, BJP had a whopping victory. During the 2019 election, Dr. Munjapara Mahendrabhai, emerged victorious as the winning candidate from the constituency. He secured a total of 631844, while his closest competitor, Koli Patel Somabhai Gandalal of the INC, garnered 354407 votes. BJP won with a margin of 277437 votes.
In the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, BJP”s Fatepara Devajibhai Govindbhai emerged victorious as the winning candidate. He secured a total of 529003 votes, while his closest rival, Koli Patel Somabhai Gandalal of the INC, received 326096 votes.
Despite the hefty oppositions, Candubhai Chhaganbhai Shihora hopes to keep his party”s strong hold on the seat.
