Arjun Chautala of Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) is leading with 5,932 in Haryana’s Rania Assembly constituency against his nearest rival Ranjit Singh, an independent. Indian National Congress’ Sarv Mitter is placed on the third place as six rounds of counting has been done out of a total 14.
Ranjit Singh a former minister in the Haryana cabinet during the last term. Counting is underway in Haryana and Jammu and Kashmir to elect new governments in respective states. Haryana has a total of 90 Assembly seats.
Arjun Chautala is one of the three candidates of the Rania assembly, who is hoping to continue the legacy of India’s former deputy prime minister Devi Lal. Arjun is Devi Lal’s great-grandson. His entry into politics was inevitable, and he started as a member of the INLD party, founded by his father Abhay Singh Chautala. Arjun contested the 2005 Haryana Assembly elections from the Rori constituency but faced defeat.
In the 2019 Haryana Assembly elections, Ranjit Singh of IND won in this seat defeating Gobind Kanda of HLP by a margin of 19,431 which was 13.53% of the total votes cast for the seat. IND had a vote share of 37.48% in 2019 in this seat.
