Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan submitted nomination for the upcoming State Assembly election from the Budhni constituency on Monday. As the election falls on November 17, Monday was the last date for filing nominations, and scrutiny will take place on Tuesday.
He filed his nomination in the presence of wife Sadhna. Before that, Mr Chouhan performed puja of his ancestral deity in his native Jait village, prayed at Salkanpur Devi temple and sought blessings of Narmada river.
After submitting the nomination, Chief Minister conducted a roadshow in his village and requested people to “consider themselves as Shivraj” and assure his victory considering the welfare works he has done in his political career. Besides, he also addressed a public meeting in the district.
“We will serve the public and will do it in such a way that the world would remember that someone had come. The aim of my life is to make the lives of the people better. I want to tell the women of the entire state that in the coming five years I will make every sister a Lakhpati Didi,” quotes PTI as Chief Minister is saying.
Mr Chouhan will be contesting against Congress candidate Vikram Mastal, who is known for his role as Hanuman in the 2008 television serial Ramayan, and Samajwadi Party (SP) candidate Mahamandaleshwar Swami Vairagyanand Giri alias Mirchi Baba, the controversial godman.
Besides Chouhan, another key BJP leader in the state, Kailash Vijayvargiya will contest from Indore-1 assembly constituency.
The assembly elections in Madhya Pradesh expects a tight battle between BJP and Congress. In 2018, winning 114 seats, Congress came to power with Kamal Nath as Chief Minister. But the government lasted only 15 months, when Jyotiraditya Scindia, along with 22 MLAs, left Congress and joined BJP in 2020, Nath”s government fell down. Consequently, BJP formed the government with Mr Chouhan as Chief Minister.
The 230 constituencies of the state will face election in single phase and counting of the votes will take place on December 3.
