Maharashtra Assembly Elections Date Announced; Check Here

The Election Commission of India (ECI) has announced the dates for the upcoming Maharashtra Assembly Elections. According to the EC’s announcement, the assembly elections in Maharashtra will be held in single phase on November 20, 2024 (Wednesday).

The counting of votes will be done on November 23, 2024 (Saturday).

Date of Issue of Gazette Notification: October 22, 2024 (Tuesday)

Last Date of Making Nominations: October 29, 2024 (Tuesday)

Date for Scrutiny of Nominations: October 30, 2024 (Wednesday)

Last Date for Withdrawal of Candidatures: November 4, 2024 (Monday)

Polling Date: November 20, 2024 (Wednesday)

Counting of Votes: November 23, 2024 (Saturday)

Date before which election shall be completed: November 25, 2024 (Monday)

 

The Maharashtra assembly elections will be held for 288 seats. Notably, the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Rajiv Kumar also announced that the bypolls for Uttarakhand Assembly Constituency will be conducted along with Maharashtra polls.

Currently ruled by the Mahayuti government led by chief minister Eknath Shinde, the term of the state assembly will end on November 26. The Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP,) Shiv Sena (Eknath Shinde) and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) (Ajit Pawar) are part of the ruling alliance in the state.

The Maharashtra election is expected to witness a two-way battle between the ruling Mahayuti Alliance and the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) coalition of the Shiv Sena (UBT), NCP (Sharad Pawar) and the Congress.

After a 61.4 percent voter turnout in the 2019 Maharashtra assembly elections, the BJP, and undivided Shiv Sena, coalition came to power.
