In strong words, former IAS officer Dr P V Ramesh on Monday (August 11) rebuked the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Karnataka for his failure to conduct an impartial investigation of the alleged electoral malpractices. Calling him a “disgrace” to the IAS fraternity, Ramesh added that it is painful that a senior IAS officer has been reduced to a “puppet “of the masters of the Election Commission of India (ECI).

Ramesh’s reaction came in response to the Karnataka CEO’s action of serving a notice to the Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Sunday.

In a post on X, retired bureacrat wrote, “You are a disgrace to #IAS fraternity, @ceo_karnataka ! I am deeply pained that a senior IAS officer is reduced to being a puppet of @ECISVEEP masters. @RahulGandhi has exposed a part of the serious systemic pathology infecting the electoral process. @ECISVEEP should have taken suo moto cognisance and ordered comprehensive corrective measures. Instead you/ECI have chosen to troll, taunt, obfuscate, obstruct.”

Continuing further, he added: “You have forfeited the trust and confidence of this great nation and have become global laughing stock. Do you, @ceo_karnataka feel proud that you are driving the long nail in to the heart of Indian democracy?”

Karnataka CEO’s notice was based on one of Gandhi’s allegations of “vote chori” in the Mahadevapura Assembly segment of the Bangalore Central Lok Sabha constituency. According to the Congress leader, a woman named Shakun Rani had voted twice during the Lok Sabha polls held last year.

The notice asked Opposition leader to submit documents to support “vote chori” allegations he had made in New Delhi earlier so that an investigation can be conducted.
