New Delhi: Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, is all set to adopt 22 children from Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district who lost their parents or the providers of the family in the cross-border firing during Operation Sindoor. Poonch was one of the regions hit hardest by the Pakistani shelling during the conflict

The Rai Barelly MPs will continue to fund their education until they complete their graduation, The Indian Express reported, citing Jammu and Kashmir’s Congress chief, Tariq Hamid Karra.

During the Operation Sindoor, India launched against Pakistan-based terror camps in response to the Pahalgam terror attack on April 22, many people in the border villages, especially in Poonch, suffered significant losses including casualties and damage to their homes and properties.

Pakistan continued intense cross-border shelling throughout the conflict period, killing over 10 people and injuring many. Poonch, one of the regions hit hardest by the Pakistani shelling.

According to Tariq Hamid Karra, the first aid instalment will be released this week itself to ensure the students should continue their schooling without any troubles.

In May, the Congress leader had visited Poonch and asked the party leader to prepare a list of affected children. After conducting a survey, the names of children were finalised after cross-checking government records.
