Baba Ziauddin Siddique, former Congress minister and MLA from Maharashtra resigned from the Indian National Congress (INC) today. Baba Siddique in his social media platform X (formerly Twitter) announced his resignation from the primary membership of the congress party. “Today I resign from the primary membership of the Indian National Congress Party with immediate effect,” the former Congress leader wrote.

Talking about his time in Congress, the former Congress minister said that he joined the Indian National Congress party as a young teenager and it was a significant journey lasting 48 years, noting his long lasting association with the grand old party.

“There’s a lot I would have liked to express but as they say some things are better left unsaid. I thank everyone who has been a part of this journey,” Baba Siddique further penned.

However, the report says that the former Congress leader will be joining the Ajit-Pawar-led Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), which was recently split when the Ajit-Pawar walked out with a majority of the party MLAs from the NCP led by the founder Sharad Pawar. Ajit Pawar is now part of the BJP-Shiv Sena-led Maharashtra government, becoming the deputy chief minister of the state.

As per the report, Baba Siddique is likely to join the Ajit Pawar-led NCP at a gathering in Bandra. The former congress leader along with his MLA son reportedly met the deputy chief minister to express willingness to join his faction, Times of India reported

As an important minority leader in the Bandra area of the coaster suburb of Mumbai, Baba Siddique was a three-time MLA from the Bandra West constituency in 1999, 2004 and 2009 consecutively. He has also served as the Minister of State for Food & Civil Supplies during the 2004–2008 tenure. Besides, he has played important role such as the Municipal Corporator for two consecutive terms.
