8 Lakh Applicants For Limited Govt Vacancies: Congress Blasts "Fake Gujarat Model"
In Gujarat, unemployment among educated youths was exposed in the open when the government sought applications to fill some vacancies. Over 2.48 lakh candidates have applied for the written exam to fill 12,000 Lokrakshak Dal constable posts, showing the fierce competition and high demand for government employment in the state, according to a report by The New Indian Express.
This desperate move by lakhs of candidates highlights Gujarat’s severe unemployment crisis. Moreover, over 5.42 lakh aspirants have applied for 2,389 Revenue Talati Class-3 posts, exposing the extent of unemployment among learned youths who have no other options to get a job that matches their degrees in the state.

Apart from this, the state government has raised the bar for Talati posts by making graduation mandatory for applying for the jobs. However, applications have skyrocketed, highlighting the severe struggle of educated youths to find employment and make ends meet. The government has also increased the upper age limit from 33 to 35, contributing to further widening the competition among the aspirants in the state.
As per the report, though the posts are in the Class 3 category with a modest pay grade, the exam syllabus has been set as that of higher-grade posts.
The online form submission started on May 26, and over 3 lakh candidates have paid their exam fees. Notably, candidates will only receive a refund of their exam fee if they score at least 40 % of the marks.
