BJP candidate and former Rithala MLA won a third term after losing two elections. Rana bagged 1,04,371 votes, defeating AAP’s incumbent MLA Mohinder Goyal by a significant margin of 29,616 votes. Goyal managed to secure 74,755 votes.
Rana first won the seat in 2008 with 64,474 votes and then secured a second term in 2013 with 73,961 votes as a BJP candidate. But he lost the seat against AAP’s Mohinder Goyal who won the seat with 93,470 votes and a vote margin of 29,251 votes. AAP had a vote share of 56.63 percent in 2015 in the seat.
In the 2020 Delhi Assembly elections, Goyal again won, defeating BJP’s Manish Chaudhary by a margin of 13,873. The party had a vote share of 52.63 percent in 2020 in the seat.
Delhi has an electorate of 1.5 crore, with 83.49 lakh male voters and 71.73 lakh female voters. Meanwhile, third gender voters are 1,261 as per the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Delhi.
The counting of votes commenced at 7 am, with initial trends emerging by 8 am. The final results are expected by 6 pm, with real-time updates available on the Election Commission’s official websites.
In the 2020 Assembly polls, AAP secured a massive victory, winning 62 seats, while BJP secured 8 seats. However, the Congress failed to garner any seats in the election.
Over 699 candidates stood for elections in the national capital, with the Aam Aadmi Party and Congress fielding 70 candidates each. The Bharatiya Janata Party had 68 candidates, with two seats for its allies Janata Dal (United) and Lok Janshakti Party (LJP).
