Chhattisgarh is set to witness three phases of polling in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. Meanwhile, the BJP is trying to defeat the Congress in all 11 Lok Sabha seats in the state. Roop Kumari Choudhary is the BJP candidate from the Mahasamund Lok Sabha constituency.

The BJP has allocated tickets to three women candidates this time in Chhattisgarh, and Roop Kumari Choudhary is one of them. Mahasamund Lok Sabha constituency, comprising eight assembly seats, was once the stronghold of Congress. However, the saffron party is holding this seat since 2009.

Roop Kumari Choudhary has been active in politics for a long time and had earlier represented the Basna constituency in the Chhattisgarh Assembly. In the 2013 polls, Roop Kumari Choudhary became MLA from Basna with a margin of 6239 votes. She secured a total of 77,137 votes at that time. However, Congress candidate Devendra Bahadur Singh managed to get only 70,898 votes. In the 2018 assembly polls, the BJP denied ticket for Roop Kumari Choudhary.

In 2019, Roop Kumari Choudhary took charge as BJP President of Mahasamund district. She also held various other posts, ranging from district panchayat member. The BJP decision to field a new face in Mahasamund constituency is considered a notable change, as the party had dropped MP Chunni Lal Sahu from this seat. In the previous general elections, Chunni Lal Sahu secured this constituency by a margin of 90,511 votes.
