Meanwhile, Senior Congress leader and sitting Raver MLA Shirish Chaudhari has decided to field his son Dhananjay from the constituency. In the 2019 elections, Shirish has defeated then sitting BJP MLA and Amole Jawale’s father Haribhau by a margin of 15,609 votes. Raver was the sole seat won by Congress in Jalgaon district during the 2019 Assembly polls. In 2014, Haribhau defeated Shirish and won the seat by a margin of 10,000 votes.
Citing health reasons, Shirish did not want to contest from the Raver assembly seat and wanted to give the ticket to his son. “I have requested Balasaheb Thorat [Congress Legislature party leader] and the party’s state chief, Nana Patole, to give the ticket to my son as I am not willing to contest the Raver seat during the forthcoming state assembly polls due to health reasons,” the Times of India quotes, as the Chaudhari is saying.
In 2009, Shirish won the seat for the first time by contesting as an independent candidate. Traditionally, Raver is considered as the constituency of freedom fighter and former Legislative Assembly Speaker Madhukarrao Chaudhary.
