Mamata Banerjee will release the first candidates list for the Lok Sabha election during the ‘Jana Garjan Sabha’ rally. The mega election campaign rally will take place at Kolkata’s Brigade Parade Grounds. During the rally Trinamool Congress will release the name 42 candidates for the upcoming 2024 Lok Sabha election. This is the first time TMC is announcing candidates list during a public meeting.

Reportedly, Mamata Banerjee and general secretary of TMC, Abhishek Banerjee will take the centre stage during the rally in order to set the tone of the upcoming election. Ahead of the rally, the West Bengal Chief Minister posted a video message on her X (formerly twitter), asking people to join the rally.
She said, “Bengal”s patience & courtesy should NOT be mistaken for its weakness. The Bohiragoto Jomidars must be reminded of this on March 10. The rally’s themes are said to be set around the alleged withholding of the states financial dues by the central government, a issue that has dominated the state politics for more than two years, as reported by PTI. The rally is expected to amass over eight lakh supporters and several part leaders, who will flock from different district to join the rally, predicted Abhishek Banerjee.
BJP called the rally as “farewell rally” of TMC in West Bengal. BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari called TMC leaders as “goons and corrupt” and predicted the “impending downfall” of the party.
Meanwhile, when the 2024 Lok Sabha election is only few weeks away, the TMC is still keeping away from Congress. TMC blames the stand-off at Congress’ reluctance in speedily concluding the seat sharing arrangements. Days before Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Nyaay Yathra enters West Bengal, Mamata Banerjee said that TMC will not leave a single seat to Congress in West Bengal. Congress did not intend to escalate the situation, as the party’s General Secretary, Jairam Ramesh said the negotiations are still on between the parties.
Congress seemingly tried to woo TMC by suggesting that it was willing to sacrifice one of the two seats for an alliance in West Bengal, but media report suggests that the West Bengal CM is not willing for the arrangements.
