Mahim constituency in Maharashtra had been going through confusions from within the Mahayuti alliance partners, with the reports of the chief minister Eknath Shinde asking the sitting MLA to withdraw his nomination. The BJP wanted to support Amit Thackrey, the son of Raj Thackeray, as Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) candidate from Mahim constituency.
The MNS had supported the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) and Shinde’s Shiv Sena coalition in the latest Lok Sabha election this year. The MNS had decided to fight the elections without an alliance for the upcoming assembly elections scheduled for November 20. Instead of the ally Shinde Sena, the BJP has declared its support for MNS candidate Amit Thackeray.

Incumbent MLA Sarvankar has recently claimed that he was asked by Shinde to meet Raj Thackeray and accept his orders regarding his candidature from the Mahim seat, adding that the MNS chief arguably refused to meet the MLA, making him continue on the fray for the elections. With the change in political dynamics and the confusions, Mahim is bracing for an intense three-way battle among sitting Shiv Sena MLA Sada Sarvankar, Shiv Sena (UBT)’s candidate Mahesh Sawant and Amit Thackeray.

With all the political dramas, Mahim appears to be one of the heated constituencies in Maharashtra, as the BJP has already pleaded to campaign for MNS candidate, leaving behind its ally partner and the sitting MLA. Sarvankar has been representing the seat since 2014. The Shinde faction had earlier reportedly agreed to withdraw its candidate from Mahim on the condition that MNS withdraw all its candidates pitted against Mahayuti in Mumbai, but the Raj Thackeray’s party is contesting 25 seats in Mumbai.
However, with the three-cornered battle certain, voters will be in for a ‘tough choice’ between Sada Sarvankar and Sawant Amit Thackeray, making it hard to infer the electoral outcome from the constituency, according to the political analysts.
