The National Testing Agency (NTA) has issued clarification over the fake messages making rounds on social media regarding certain guidelines to the upcoming general elections. The NTA has said that the messages circulating on social media are false and students who participate in the general elections and have their fingers inked will not face any prohibition from entering examination halls.
NTA stated that voting will not impact the eligibility of students to sit for exams conducted by the agency including NEET, JEE Main, or any other exam. It said in a statement that the agency has not issued any such notice regarding the impact of voting on a candidate’s entry to appear for the examination.

Citing the messages circulating on social media which claim the prohibition on entry NTA said, “The above messages are completely baseless and NTA has not issued any such instructions/guidelines. Students are requested not to pay heed to such rumours and to exercise their voting rights. Voting will not affect their eligibility to take examinations. The candidates are advised to focus on their studies and prepare for the forthcoming examinations.”
Notably, there are 19.74 crore young voters under the age of 29 which includes around 1.85 crore Indians falling into the category of first-time voters, aged between 18 and 19 years as of January 1, 2024. Out of these new voters, 85 lakh are women. Moreover, first-time voters can register if they turn 18 on April 1, July 1, or October 1 of any given year, not simply January 1.
Notably, NTA is conducting national-level examinations including CUET, JEE, and NEET among others and most of the examination dates fall within the upcoming general elections dates.
