“Will Conduct Caste Census”: Congress Releases Poll Manifesto For Rajasthan Assembly Elections

“We do what we say”, the Indian National Congress released the manifesto for the Rajasthan Assembly elections, 2023 on Tuesday. Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot revealed the manifesto and promised a caste survey if the party retain its power in the upcoming polls. “We will keep all our promises made to the people of Rajasthan, because we do what we say”, said Congress taking the video footages of the event on X (formerly Twitter).

The manifesto was titled ‘Jan Ghoshna Patra’. Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, party in-charge for Rajasthan Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa, state party president Govind Singh Dotasra, Manifesto committee chairman CP Joshi and former Deputy Chief Minister Sachin Pilot were also present in the event.

In the manifesto, the party decided to increase the Chiranjeevi Health Insurance from Rs 25 lakh to Rs 50 lakh and offered ten lakh new jobs to the people of the state, out of which 4 lakh are government jobs. They have promised to conduct the caste census and will reduce the price of gas cylinder from Rs 500 to Rs 400.

“The way in which we have managed the financial situation of Rajasthan, the people of Rajasthan will feel proud about it”, said Mr Gehlot in the press conference. He added that the per capita income of the state had increased by 46.48 per cent, “till 2030, it is our dream to achieve the number-one position in per capita income. In 2020–21, the state GDP reached 19.50, which is the highest in the decade”, Mr Gehlot added.

The Chief Minister already announced seven “guarantees” to the people of Rajasthan. The poll-promises includes:

  1. The Griha Lakshmi Yojana guarantee – An annual honorarium of Rs 10,000 will be provided to the women head of the family.
  2. LPG cylinders will be made available for Rs 500 to 1.05 crore families of the state.
  3. The Gowdhan guarantee – Purchase of dung from cattle rearers for Rs 2 per kg.
  4. Law for the old pension scheme for government employees.
  5. Laptop or tablet will be provided to students taking admission in government colleges.
  6. Insurance cover up to Rs 15 lakh per family to compensate for losses due to natural calamity.
  7. Chiranjeevi health insurance scheme – The scheme will be updated from Rs 25 lakh to Rs 50 lakh.

Meanwhile Rahul Gandhi addressed a public meeting in Rajasthan’s Vallabhnagar and reiterated his hope for sustaining the Congress government in the state. “The love and support extended by the people of Rajasthan confirms the win of Congress”, he said. The state will head to the poll booths on November 25 and the counting of votes will be held on December 3. In the past election, held in 2018, the Congress emerged as the major party of the state by securing 99 seats.
