Phani Bhusan Choudhury is a candidate representing Asom Gana Parishad in the Barpeta constituency for the Lok Sabha Election 2024. In this Lok Sabha election, he is fielded against Deep Bayan of the Congress Party.
The 35-year political journey of Phani Bhusan Choudhury marked his distinct record of representing the Bangaigaon assembly constituency for the 8th consecutive time in the Assam Legislative Assembly since 1985.
He also served as the Minister of Food and Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs from 2018 to 2021 in the Sarbananda Sonowal ministry. Phani was a member of the Housing Committee of the Assam Legislative Assembly, and the Minister of Public Undertakings Committee of the Assam Legislative Assembly from 1996 to 2001. He was also Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee from 2009 to 2011 and leader of the AGP Legislature party from 2011 to 2016. He was also elected as a Protem speaker of the Assam Legislative Assembly in 2021.
AGP has fielded Phani Bhusan Choudhury for the first time in the Lok Sabha election, who is up against Deep Bayan of Congress. AGP was represented by Kumar Deepak Dhas in the 2019 Lok Sabha election, where he secured 540,866 votes and was defeated by Abdhul Kalique of the Congress Party. Congress won the election as it secured 44.23% of the total votes.
