As the 2023 assembly election result of Mizoram is at its end note, Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM) has secured a safest edge by winning a total of 25 seats so far. The incumbent Mizo National Front (MNF) party is lagging behind with seven seats while BJP has secured 2 seats, as per the Election Commission of India. To form a government within five years of being officially registered as a political party speaks in volume about the strength of the party.

Chief ministerial candidate of the party is Lalduhoma. He secured his victory in Serchhip constituency with the margin of 2,982 votes. The former IPS officer is the founder of the winning party.

With the emergence of ZPM in 2018, Mizoram went under major political transformation. The party is the coalition of six regional parties, Mizoram People’s Conference, Zoram Nationalist party, Zoram Exodus Movement, Zoram Decentralisation Front, Zoram Reformation Front, and Mizoram People’s Party. The Election Commission of India officially registered the party in 2019.

The largest among the six regional party was Mizoram People’s Conference, which left ZPM in 2019 after ZPM officially became a political party. In 2018 assembly election, the party competed for the first time and has won 8 seats with the support from independent candidates.

According to Election Commission of India, 80.66 percentage of total 8.52 lakh people eligible for voting has casted their vote this year. Among the 11 districts of the state, the Serchhip district, from where Lalduhoma, the Chief Ministerial candidate has contested, has seen the major vote share.

While the ZPM, MNF and Congress has competed for all the 40 seats, BJP has competed 23 for seats and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has competed for 4 seats.
