A Stylish, Swaggy Blood-Bath: Unni Mukundan’s Marco Reviews Out

As promised by the makers, Unni Mukundan’s Marco is arguably the most violent Malayalam movie ever made. The Haneef Adeni directorial is based on the character from Nivin Pauly’s Mikhael (2017). A pure revenge drama, the film follows Mukundan’s swaggy character.

According to a review by The South First, the film remains elevated with high production quality, stylish costumes, and an impressive background score. “The action choreography deserves praise,” the review says.

The review notes that while Marco follows a “predictable revenge storyline,” what sets it apart is its unique presentation.

In terms of performances, Unni Mundudan shines in both the swaggy hero parts as well as the emotional scenes. Jagdish, as Tony Issac, delivered a “standout performance.”

However, if you wish to watch a film with a strong story, Marco may not be for you. Lensmen Reviews calls the writing “extremely weak,” that hides behind set pieces “deliberately designed to make things uncomfortable for the viewer.”

According to Timeline, Marco is a “flawed celebration of violence in an unapologetic way.”
