Prithviraj Sukumaran-starrer Aadujeevitham or The Goat Life might hit the Oman theatres after Eid, Timeline learned from a source close to the Blessy-directed survival drama. Earlier, the movie, that tells the story of a Malayali labourer who got trapped in the clutches of a sponsor in a Saudi Arabian desert and his subsequent escape in the 1990s, was denied permission for big screens during its initial release on March 28. An Omani national, Dr Talib Al Balushi, plays a major character in Aadujeevitham the movie that saw substantial footfall in Kerala and outside after its release.
Meanwhile, addressing a gathering of Malayali expatriates in Muscat on Sunday, Dr Balushi has also hinted in the possibility of the Oman release soon,
“I hope the movie will be released in Oman after Eid, Insha Allah,” he said at a meeting of Metropolitans Ernakulam. “It was my good chance to be part of this film, this good film, as an actor. This is an international film,” he added.
However, Timeline has also learned that Aadujeevitham Oman release is expected to happen with certain riders. There is a possibility that some symbols and other details that connects the story to Saudi Arabia might be censored in Oman as the country’s political allegiance in the region slants towards Riyadh. However, a person who is working with a theatre chain in Gulf region confirmed that the movie has not been listed for its Oman release yet.
Last week, Aadujeevitham has seen the light of the screens in other Arab countries like Qatar and Bahrain after a delay of one week. The movie is being screened in three Gulf countries currently, including UAE, Qatar and Bahrain. UAE release of the movie happened at the same time with its global release.
In box office, the movie has already broken several records for a Malayalam movie. Its gross Indian collection has crossed Rs 60 crores yesterday and the global collection is standing at more than Rs 100 crore. The movie is expected to surpass the recent records set by another industry blockbuster Manjummel boys recently.
Aadujeevitham Oman connection
Ahead of the movie’s release, a group of Malayali NRIs sat down with Dr Talib Al Balushi in a Muscut restaurant to talk about his Aadujeevitham. Dr Talib, who is playing the villain’s character, originally written by Malayalam author Benyamin, talked about the movie, his experience with the makers of Aadujeevitham, Malayalam movie industry and his works with the Keralites gathered in 1947 Indian restaurant at Al Ghubra, Muscat.
“We putting our best efforts to release Aadujeevitham in Oman. There are a large number of movie-goers who are waiting for the release of the movie in this country. The efforts under Oman Film Society is underway,” Dr Talib, who holds his PhD in film studies from an Egyptian university, told then the NRIs gathered in the restaurant for a special dinner and conversation.
“We are hopeful that this will work out,” he expressed his hopes then.
The Omani actor, who has several features and shorts in his credits, showered praises on director Blessy. “He is not just a director, he a god-blessed human,” said Dr Balushi, whose name became familiar to Malayalam movie buffs during the Covid period. He was quarantined in Jordan when the actor went for the second schedule of Aadujeevitham during Covid.
He expressed his desire to act more in Malayalam projects. “I will act in Malayalam if I am given chances. I don’t speak much Malayalam, but I can speak Urdu and Hindi, and ready to work in Hindi as well if I am offered roles,” he said.
Dr Balushi is an also a great admirer of Prithviraj Sukumaran. He recalled how the professionalism and brilliance of Prithviraj impressed him during the shooting of the movie and also when he visited the Indian actor in the location of movie ‘Kaduva’.
