Just weeks ahead of the release of his much-anticipated film Sitaare Zameen Par, actor-producer Aamir Khan is once again under the social media microscope.
Aamir Khan Productions changed its official display picture across all major social media platforms on Friday to the Indian national flag.
The change was swiftly noticed by users on platforms like X, Instagram, and Facebook. Until recently, the production house had been using its signature logo. However, the tricolour now occupies its profile space, prompting speculation about the timing and intent behind the update.
It didn’t take long for the shift to spark conversations on Reddit and X, where screenshots of the new display picture began circulating with pointed commentary.
A significant section of users interpreted the move as an attempt at damage control, given the growing online backlash Aamir Khan has been facing.
The calls to boycott Sitaare Zameen Par stem largely from two incidents that have reignited nationalistic sentiments.

First, Aamir Khan’s delayed response to Operation Sindoor, a high-profile military operation conducted by Indian armed forces targeting terror bases in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.
While many Bollywood celebrities had publicly acknowledged the mission within hours, Aamir Khan remained silent for days, finally posting on May 12: “Salute to the heroes of Operation Sindoor. Heartfelt gratitude to our armed forces for their courage, bravery, and unwavering commitment to the security of our nation. Thank you to the Honourable Prime Minister for his leadership and determination. Jai Hind.”

The timing of the post, however, was not lost on social media users, with several pointing out that it coincided with the promotion cycle of Sitaare Zameen Par.
Compounding the backlash was the resurfacing of an old video from Khan’s visit to Turkey years ago. The visit, which had sparked criticism at the time due to Turkey’s then-critical stance towards India, has returned to haunt the actor during this sensitive period.
Despite the noise, Aamir Khan’s Sitaare Zameen Par is moving forward with its planned theatrical release on June 20, 2025.

The trailer, which was released earlier this month, received a mix of praise for its emotional core and criticism over the timing of its promotion amidst political tension.
