Actor-turned-politician Mukesh is caught up in a series of sexual allegations following the release of the Hema Committee report. The government is under severe pressure after the Opposition demanded resignation as a member of the Assembly.

Amid the turmoil, CPI leader Annie Raja has come forward demanding the resignation of the Kollam MLA and an immediate probe against the sexual allegation leveled against him. CPI is a senior alliance partner in the ruling CPM-led Left government in the state.

She said that the public would doubt whether the investigation was proper if Mukesh continued in the post. “The government should ensure that such doubts do not arise. If Mukesh does not step down voluntarily, he should be removed from the post and probed promptly,” Annie Raja said.

Annie Raja also welcomed AMMA executive members’ decision to resign and disband the organization as she hopes it to be the first step towards a change in the Malayalam film industry.

The release of the Justice Hema Committee report concerning sexual harassment and abuse in the Malayalam film industry has opened up many increasingly serious allegations.

A series of allegations of sexual abuse has risen against Kollam MLA and actor Mukhesh which has led to opposition strongly demanding his resignation.

However, CPM responding to the demand stated that since there are no legal cases registered against him, he does not have to resign.

The CPM state secretariat said that they have decided to take action as per the High Court’s stance. However, a section of leaders has expressed anger over the party’s decision. Some upheld their view that Mukesh is not a leader who has worked extensively for the party. The matter is expected to be discussed in the CPM district secretariat in Kollam.

Meanwhile, as per the recent development in the aftermath of the revelation of the harassment, the executive members of AMMA, the actors association of Malayalam film actors, including President Mohanlal submitted mass resignation from the association. he urgent meeting was reportedly held online which decided the disbanding of the organization. After stepping down from the executive committee of the organization, the actor expressed his wish for new leadership for AMMA. He also expressed gratitude to all those who corrected and criticized him.

However, several actors, including Shammi Thilakan, and Prithiraj Sukumaran among others had expressed their disappointment over the alleged “weak stance” of the association towards the report.
