Tovino Thomas’ police investigation drama, Anweshippin Kandethum is full of stories and characters. Director Darwin Kuriakose and writer Jinu V Abraham have added their gripping story to the list of famous police stories from Malayalam film industry. This movie has two stories, both of them are worth watching and performed well by a good pack of actors led by Tovino Thomas, who is in his fourth avatar as a cop after Ezra, Kalki and Tharangam.
First story is a police investigation into the disappearance of a girl which ultimately leads to the suspension of four officers including Tovino’s Sub Inspector character Anand Narayanan. And the second story is the redemption tale of these police officers in which they venture out to find a murderer who killed a village girl six years ago.
Anweshippin Kandethum has details about how a criminal executes his act and the motives behind it. In both the stories, which come in each half of the movie, the protagonist goes on a mission to find the real culprits behind each crime as the system fails or gets manipulated in reaching them.
Tovino, who has placed himself as one of the bankable and mature actors in Malayalam, with Anweshippin Kandethum adds more in to his acting promises. In this movie, the Adrishya Jalakangal actor comes across as more composed and presents the turmoils of a sub inspector, who has to fight the system to deliver justice to the voiceless, with shades of impeccable acting prowess.
The ensemble cast featuring Siddique, Indrans, Shammy Thilakan, Baburaj, Kottayam Naseer, Azees Nedumangad, Sadique among others give their best performances to make the movie more watchable. The roles done by Azees and Kottayam Naseer as the corrupt police officers in the first half show the famous comedians as more promising actors. For Azees, this movie is a true upgrade from his remarkable performance in Kannur Squad.
There are more notable performances in the movie: The entire crew of sub inspector Anand. Vineeth Thattil, Rahul Rajagopal and Pramod Veliyanad light up the movie in several scenes, and changes the rhythm of the movie into a decent thriller.
The music by Santhosh Narayanan, camera work by Gautham Sankar, and editing by Saiju Sreedharan add extra entertainment value and visual spectacle to the plot, which would have been compromised in presentation if not handled carefully.
This Tovino Thomas thriller is a decent thriller which details the problems of the police system and the psych of criminals in the interiors of our lands.
