“Bollywood Stars Never Believed In Playing Characters…”: Ram Gopal Varma’s Praise For Allu Arjun

Actor Allu Arjun’s Pushparaj character from the sequel Pushpa 2: The Rule is being praised by fans and industry experts. Followed by legendary actor Amitabh Bachchan’s admiration, filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma praised actor Allu Arjun. He claimed that Allu Arjun was the first star in India who became an actor to play a character in Pushpa 2.

In his heartfelt appreciation post, RGV pointed out the difference in actors on understanding characters. Comparing the versatility shown in Pushparaj as a character, he claimed that the Bollywood stars’ understanding never went beyond slight alterations in hairstyle and clothing. He also said, “They believe stars should look like stars.”

He further explained the common misinterpretation of mannerisms among actors and added, “Some fake and artificial mannerisms is what they think is character unlike the mannerisms of Alluarjun which seem to come out organically from within the character.”

RGV said that the success of Pushpa 2 is a wakeup call to all stars to stop depending upon slow motions and called out actors to seriously work on characteristics.

The director  praised Allu Arjun’s dedication and said, “The film industry should owe a lot to @alluarjun for opening its eyes which is bound to RESHAPE the FUTURE in how STARS will look at CHARACTERS in the decades to come.”

RGV’s praise for Allu Arjun’s Pushpa comes after a detailed characteristic review by the director. In a long review penned by the National award-winning director, he mentioned how Pushpa 2 redefined the definition of a superhero, which was expected to be perfect.

His review read, “Pushpa’s character is coming from such highly contrasting characteristics like innocence blending with cunning and a super ego mixed with vulnerability I never ever believed that a deformed guy can be a super action hero because by the very definition a super hero is expected to be perfect But in Pushpa’s character.”

He also highlighted how Allu Arjun turned that deformity into such a force and strength. He wrote, “But in Pushpa’s character turned that deformity into such a force and a much more stronger strength giving rise to never before seen body language and gestures which will imprint on the audiences memory for decades to come as a reference point.”
