“Can We Call These Electoral Bond Series?”: Prakash Raj On ‘Propaganda’ Films

Edited by Aishwarya Krishnan

Recently, the poster for a new film made its rounds on social media, with several describing it as ‘another propaganda film.’ JNU – Jahangir National University, the latest in a pile of recent propaganda films, is written and directed by Vinay Sharma. With the tagline, “Can one educational university break the nation?” the film features Urvashi Rautela, Siddharth Bodke, Vijay Raaz, Piyush Mishra, Ravi Kishan, Atul Pandey, and Sonnalli Seygall.

In a recent post on X (formerly known as Twitter), actor-politician Prakash Raj too shared his opinion on the film. Taking to his X handle, Raj shared a collage of film posters, including Accident or Conspiracy: Godhra, Swatantra Veer Savarkar, Bastar: The Naxal Story, Razakar, Article 370, Main Atal Hoon, The Sabarmati Report, and The Vaccine War.

Captioning the post, the actor wrote, “Propaganda film… Can we call these Electoral Bond series,” referring to the electoral bond case.

Not shy of calling out such films, Prakash Raj had previously shared a video clip of a man in a theatre calling for the eradication of the minority Muslim community. Receiving a huge applause by others in the theatre showing The Kashmir Files, the man also chanted “Jai Shri Ram.” Prakash Raj captioned the video, “Kashmir Files this propaganda film… is it healing wounds or sowing seeds of hatred and inflicting wounds?”

The actor had also criticised Vivek Agnihotri, the director of The Kashmir Files, on whether he would “arm twist these files too… and release them,” including the Delhi riots, GST, the Godhra case, Ganga, COVID-19, and demonetisation.
