Delhi HC Summons Netflix Over Sameer Wankhede's Suit Over His Portrayal In Aryan Khan's 'Ba***ds of Bollywood'

New Delhi: The Delhi High Court on Wednesday issued summons to several digital platforms, including Red Chilies Entertainment, Netflix, Google, X Corp and Meta, seeking their responses to a defamation suit filed by Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officer Sameer Wankhede.

The matter will be heard on October 30. While issuing the summons, Justice Purushaindra Kumar Kaurav said that the court cannot pass an injunction order in general, adding that “Let them take instructions and file a reply.

The summon was issued when the court was hearing on an application for interim relief in a defamation lawsuit filed by IRS officer and former NCB official Sameer Wankhede against Red Chillies Entertainment, Netflix, and the program’s director Aryan Khan over their web series The Ba***ds of Bollywood.

Wankhede, the Zonal Director of Narcotics Control Bureau, had arrested Aryan Khan son of Bollywood actor Shah rukh Khan, under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act at a drug raid in Mumbai in the year 2021. Notably, the web series directed by Aryan Khan portrayed a man bearing Wankhede’s resemblance and the scene “targets and ridicules him.

Wankhede has sought damages of ₹2 crore against the show’s producer Red Chillies Entertainment – owned by actor Shah Rukh Khan and his wife Gauri Khan, Netflix, ‘X’ Corp, Google, Meta and a media outlet RPG Lifestyle Media Pvt. Ltd. He has also sought injunction against John Doe (unknown defendants) creators, presenters, publishers creating related content on the social media platforms.

 

However, the court has scheduled the interim injunction application in the case for hearing on October 30.
